Alex Sterling - June 4, 1987 - March 4, 2010 |
"We established this fund to keep
Alex’s memory alive in the hearts of those who love him, to keep his
name before the community where he spent most of his life, and to
create something positive from his tragic death.
Alex loved animals. We will
use this fund to donate money to shelters and other organizations that
are trying to save and protect animals."
And to describe the awesome photo of Alex (above): "I wish I had thought to include this photo of Alex in
the funeral brochure. He was 12, had just started junior high, and I
told him that a friend of mine at work had said that “raising teenagers
is like nailing Jell-O to a tree.” She meant Jell-O that was cooked, of
course. But this time Alex thought inside the box. It took him about
30 seconds to grab a box of Jell-O, find a nail and hammer, go outside,
and nail the box to one of our trees. “It’s easy, Mom,” he laughed.
His quick, intelligent,
hilarious reaction was just so Alex. That’s how he was. His eyes
sparkled most of the time. He was our family comedian and fun to be
with. Others thought so, too, he had a wide circle of friends. Almost
200 people attended his funeral ... "
Alex, thank you for leaving your legacy through your foundation ..... know that your donation will help so many animals, and pet owners, of Leech Lake Reservation. You will forever remain in the hearts of so many, and in the hearts and spirits of many, many animals and beloved owners. Your legacy will live on and you will give voice and a second chance to many animals ...
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
