March 21-22, 2014 Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic

We/Leech Lake Legacy hosted our first 2014 spay/neuter and wellness clinic on March 21-22, 2014. Blizzard-like conditions on day 1 of our clinic did not deter our volunteers from heading up north to Cass Lake, nor did it deter Leech Lake reservation residents from coming with their pets to our clinic for spay/neuter and/or wellness/vaccination services. By 10:45 am on day 1 our spay/neuter surgery spots had filled up.

For our March clinic we had another logistical challenge to overcome. With construction of a radio tower at the Leech Lake Tribal Police garage (where we host our clinics) we were unable to host both our spay/neuter and wellness clinic at the Police headquarters. For the first time, we had a split location for our clinic - our spay/neuter clinic was held at the Palace Casino Big Garage (many thanks to Jeff and his staff for all of their help!) and the wellness clinic along with surrenders was held at the Tribal Police garage.

Despite the wintery weather conditions and the logistical challenge of a split location, our volunteers were once again, amazing!!! We are also extremely grateful for the gratitude expressed to us by our friends at Leech Lake and for such a welcoming community.

Here are stats from our March clinic:

  • 100 spay/neuter surgeries
  • 7 specialty surgeries
  • 56 wellness checks and vaccinations only
  • 28 surrenders
Many thanks to FAIR School and Pause 4 Paws for partially funding our March clinic. As always, we are grateful to the Leech Lake Tribal Police and the Tribal Council for partnering with us on our events and for providing food and lodging for our volunteers.

We had 31 volunteers for our March clinic ..

Our next spay/neuter and wellness clinic is scheduled for May 16-17 and will be held at the Leech Lake Tribal Police garage.

Chi miigwech.
